2019 Lax Odyssey – Introduction

As the 2018 Lacrosse Season drew to a close for the Mercyhurst Lady Lakers, last May, I noticed how engaged the parents of the seniors, were. The Lawsons and Andersons in particular, had travelled to nearly every game, regardless of the distance. In a thrilling season, where the Lakers reached their fifth consecutive PSAC Championship Game, and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, those families were treated to a great experience – A Grand Finale, A Last Hurrah.

We live over 400 miles from Mercyhurst and I coach Women’s Lacrosse at SUNY Old Westbury. So, I had missed many more games than I had been able to attend, in my daughter’s first three seasons. When the Lakers were finally done, I realized that I wanted that Senior Year experience, too.

Old Westbury agreed to let me become a “volunteer assistant” coach, thereby paving the way for me to attend ALL of Diana’s games, in this her Senior Season. Taking a page out of the Man Van Dog playbook, I have decided to create a blog, where I can share some of the details of my journey.

The first leg of the adventure begins this weekend, as I head to Erie, Pennsylvania for the Lakers Home Opener against Ursuline College! I will be flying solo on this trip and most likely on many others, though I hope to be joined by family and friends for a good number of the games.
