Three Week Recap

Since my last post, Autumn has officially begun, always my favorite time of year. I love the cooler temperatures, the changing color, and then falling of the leaves (I don’t love raking those leaves, though!), Football Season and Fall Lacrosse (Fall Ball).

I think we have all settled into the rhythm of our early morning practices. I have even heard some of the players say they prefer the 6am practices! Usually the energy is good, especially considering the time. I find myself going to sleep earlier and earlier, but waking up more easily as we are now about a month into our “off season”. Two weekends ago, we travelled to the University of New Haven for our first competition this fall – three 35 minute games. We played Southern Connecticut, New Haven and Dominican. We are definitely a work in progress and we struggled with the application of some new rules, but overall, I felt like there were many positives to take away from that day. There is much work to be done and improvement to be made, but continued hard work will make it possible for us to reach our goals.

One of the things that comes with coaching, is film study. It is something that I really enjoy doing and was happy to get back to this past week. It felt good to dig into the film from the UNH Play Day. There is almost always plenty to be learned from it, both good and bad.

A little film study.

Most days when I return from practice, I get a workout in and either run some errands (the Butcher, the Fish Store, the Cleaners etc.) and/or some gardening (though that is almost over now) or other yardwork. I am not usually good at spending money on things for myself. Recently, however, I made a BIG Purchase! The last time I bought a Heavy Bag, I was 17 or 18 years old. After a second cover and lots of Duct Tape, I finally got a new one.

Out with the Old, in with the New! Goodbye Old Friend, you have served me well!

Another thing about the fall, is that the days start getting shorter. That seems especially true when you are beginning your day at 4:30 am! The evening seems to sneak up on me, but I always try to take look outside, to see what kind of sunset we might get.

I think I have mentioned this before, but since June, I have been playing a good amount of golf. Usually, once a week, sometimes even twice a week. I am not sure I have gotten any better, and I constantly have to temper my compulsive competitiveness, and just try to enjoy the setting and my time in it. That was easier to do the other day, when Karl and I golfed nine holes at Sunken Meadow State Park.
We may not have played very well, but it was a beautiful day, and was great to be able to spend the time together.

So, as Autumn rolls along, I feel good about how things are going. We have another triple header this Sunday at Dominican. GO LIONS!
