After our disappointing performance the previous weekend, the Lions had a few days off, before getting back to practice. Our three practices, were not our greatest. Our energy level and focus, were both lacking. I hoped it was just the grind of fall ball, taking its toll on us. So, going into Sunday, our final day of competition for the fall, I did not really know which Lions Team was going to show up. Would we see the lackluster squad that we were at Dominican the previous week, or the intensely competitive team we were at New Haven, two weeks earlier?

While, my mind has mostly been on the state of our team, I have been able to enjoy the beautiful weather, we have been blessed with, lately. I actually played golf twice, last week! The weather was so great, that even my poor golf game did not ruin my day.

Sunday morning, we made the short van ride from Molloy to Adelphi, which was hosting the Round Robin style, event. It was quite cool for our first game, at 9am against the Jaspers of Manhattan College. Our second game was against the LIU Sharks, and the finale, versus the Sacred Heart Pioneers. As we took the field, I was hopeful, that the Lady Lions would rise to the occasion and play well, against the stiff competition we were about to face.
Right from the first whistle, you could see that the Lions came to compete! It was good to see us battling hard against solid Division I Teams, all day. All of the teams we played were big, fast, athletic and highly skilled, which brought out our best. We certainly had our ups and downs, and there are many things that we will need to improve upon. But, we played very hard, throughout the day, which was very encouraging. Our players now know, that they are certainly capable of playing fast paced, intense and physical lacrosse, against strong teams. Of course we will need to be much more consistent with that level of effort, but we know it can be done. It was good to feel, like we got back to making progress.
If the 2024/25 Lady Lions are going to have the kind of season we think we can have, and become the type of team, we want to be, it will take the kind of intensity, focus and effort that we displayed throughout the day, this past Sunday.
May is a long long time, from late October. The Journey of this season, will have many twists and turns, and ups and downs. But now that the bulk of our fall ball season is over (we still have some practices), I think we can all be a bit more confident about the road we are on.
Go Lions!
