After the disappointing performance and outcome of Saturday’s game with Georgian Court, we were off on Sunday, leaving us with two days to prepare for Wednesday’s home game against the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University. I thought practice was fine, though certainly nothing spectacular. I think we were all eager to get back out on the field to try to turn the page and move forward.

Game Day, was typical for what has been a colder than average winter. I did not sense that we were feeling any extra pressure and I was hopeful (though not certain) that we had not underestimated the Rams. For the first time this season, the Lions got the first goal of the game. But, Jefferson tallied the next four goals! Molloy battled back to take a 7 – 5 lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half. But by halftime, the Rams had tied the game at 7. And they went on to open up an 11 – 8 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. Once again, the Lady Lions clawed their way back into the game and it was tied again, 11 – 11, with 5:34 remaining. In those closing minutes, we certainly had our opportunities to finish off the comeback. Instead, it was the Rams who scored twice in the final minutes to secure the 13 – 11 road win!
We were a very dejected bunch, after this one. I don’t think anyone thought we would lose this game and find ourselves 0 – 3, on the season! Having won most of the statistical categories (though not as convincingly as we had on Saturday), we were again trying to put our finger on, how this one got away from us. Jefferson was able to capitalize on our many mistakes and lapses in focus. Just when it seemed that we had wrested control of the game, we would have some kind of breakdown. Our margin for error is just not that big, that we can afford so many mistakes. For the second straight game we have come up short, against a team we feel we are better than.
We were supposed to have a game at Southern Connecticut State, today, but it was postponed due to some field issues. While, I would have liked for us to have had another opportunity to get out there and compete, perhaps the extra break between games, can work to our benefit. We did some film study yesterday and enjoyed somewhat warmer weather today, during a spirited practice.

While, there is no need to panic (our goals are still attainable), I am hoping these past two games serve as a wake up call. We play five games over the next four weeks, before we begin Conference Play. We have to figure out how to play high level lacrosse, more consistently throughout a given game. We get our next opportunity, to rise to the occasion, on Wednesday, when we travel to Pace University, to take on the Setters, who began the season, ranked second in the nation!
GO LIONS!
