It took several days of practice to recover from last weekend’s roundtrip to Buffalo. With D”Youville next up, on the schedule, none of our returning players needed to be reminded of what happened last season (a Lion Loss in the snow, up in Buffalo). While, our practices were not as crisp as we would have liked, I felt that we were highly motivated and focused. Add in, all of the emotions of Senior Day, and you had the makings of an intense game.

I was worried that our emotions might cause us to play poorly. I could not have been more wrong! The Lady Lions channeled all of that Senior Day emotion, into a terrific display of lacrosse, at least in the first half! From the opening draw, we dominated the Saints in every facet of the game. By halftime, Molloy had opened up a 12 – 2 lead!
The second half would be a different story, though. D’Youville fought back, scoring the first four goals, and outscored us 9 – 4 in the second half. The Final Score was 16 – 11. While I never felt like we might lose, it was difficult to see us play so uninspired. I cannot explain what happened. It was almost as if, in our collective “mind”, we moved on at halftime.
But in a season, that has seen us lose several games to opponents similar to D”Youville, we will take the Victory! We have now won six straight games, and are 4 – 1 in our Conference! We have one regular season game left to play (next Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas), and then it will be on to the playoffs – an opportunity for this Lions Team to distinguish itself.
Despite the less than stellar second half of play, the post game, Senior Day Tailgate was nothing short of amazing. Lions Nation always puts out a wonderful spread, but yesterday’s was on another level! These Tailgate Parties are more than just a feast of delicious food. They are an EXPRESSION OF LOVE! So, Thank You to all of the parents! Congratulations to all of the Seniors and their families, I hope you have enjoyed the ride! And remember, the Best is Yet to Come!
