I had planned on making another post about ten days ago. But, our scrimmage against St. Joe’s (scheduled for 10/4) was postponed due to a field conflict on their end. It was definitely a let down, as we had really been working toward that contest. The fall can get to be a grind. We have early morning practices, five days a week and there are only three days of competition (four counting the Alumni Game). So, it can be tough to stay focused and bring your best, everyday. But, despite all of that, the Lady Lions have been doing a good job. It has just been practice, but there have already been noticeable improvements made, individually and collectively. The returners are providing leadership and the freshmen have injected a certain energy, or “Frenergy”, as I called it last year.

We got an uplifting break from the routine, yesterday, when we hosted our Fall Prospect Clinic! With a “Nor’easter” forecast for Sunday and Monday, it did cast some doubt on whether we would be able to have it. But by the afternoon, the worst of the weather had passed and thirty High Schoolers showed up! This was by far the best attended event of its kind, in the time that Coach Pepe has been at Molloy. And the talent level of the participants, was impressive, to say the least. Not only did they show up and play through some lousy weather, they really got after it! As, I walked to the car I realized it was already 6pm, and we had been out there since before 2pm! But it was really fun, and “time flies when you’re having fun”!

Maybe the Prospect Clinic was a welcomed respite for our players, because in today’s practice they seemed more energetic and focused. We now have three practices remaining, before we head to the University of New Haven for a Five Team Scrimmage Tournament on Sunday. The competition should be strong. A good gauge for us to see where we are, as a team. We are a very young team, and we don’t want to place too much importance on any one event, especially so early on in the process. But, I am really hoping that we embrace this opportunity to test ourselves.
Go Lions!
