After last week’s scrimmage at Western Connecticut, we turned our attention to our next scrimmage, which would be Saturday at Dominican. Knowing that the Chargers would be a stronger opponent, the Lady Lions seemed more intense at practice, this week. I definitely sensed an uptick in the energy level, and as a result, I thought our practices were significantly better. It also, didn’t hurt, that the weather finally warmed up a bit.
It was great to be able to have full practices (no “cold rule”!). Between the nicer weather and the raised level of intensity, it felt less like we were just surviving through the extreme cold and more like “lacrosse season”.

With a good week of practice in the books, I was eager for Saturday’s trip to Dominican. I treated myself to a “game day” breakfast from Ferring Delicatessen, which is near the Molloy campus. They make awesome egg sandwiches!

Fortified by an excellent breakfast, we piled into the vans and made a mostly traffic free drive up to Orangeburg, NY.

We have a good working relationship with Dominican. We have been scrimmaging them at least twice per year (once in the fall and once during pre-season), so we are familiar with each other and usually, some of the players know some of the players on the other team. The have become a strong Division II program, so playing them is always a test.

Yesterday’s weather was very nice, so it was indeed a beautiful day for lacrosse! And the Lions seemed to like the weather, just fine. After a bit of a slow start, we played mostly, pretty well. It is still early in the season, and there were plenty of mistakes, but we played significantly better than we did in the previous scrimmage. There were really quite a few positives, out there. We played with better focus and intensity, against a tough opponent. Overall, I was definitely happy. I have been telling the team how important it is for us to continue on our upward “trajectory”. Well, in yesterday’s scrimmage, we certainly did that.
We had boxed lunches from Chick Fil A, which generated lots of excitement. And then we were treated to a smooth return trip to Molloy (so much better than last week!)! A nice way to end a very good day and week!
We are supposed to have home games this Wednesday and Saturday. But the status of our field, remains uncertain, as it is still covered with snow. So, we will wait and see.
Go Lions!
