Good News and Bad News

Whenever I am asked “do you want the good news, or the bad news?”, I always want the “bad news” first. Without getting into why I am like that, I am going to stick with that idea, here.

Last week was a bit of a disjointed week, for me. Monday we had more snow, in what has already been a long, cold and snowy, winter. Our first game was supposed to be on Wednesday, at home against Southern Connecticut University. It was postponed, due to the fact that our newly re-turfed game field, was still not clear of snow. I had to miss practice Tuesday and Wednesday, to help with a family matter. So for me that left only Thursday and Friday, before our actual first game on Saturday, at home against the Wilmington University Wildcats.

More Snow! This winter is wearing us out!

When I returned to practice on Thursday, we were on the “game field” for the first time, in 2026. It did look nice, though I did not like the feel of it. For me, it is too spongy, slowing down every groundball and every bounce shot. Friday, we slogged through a rain soaked practice. So even though it was a “game week”, between the weather and my absences, I just didn’t feel like it was. Still, I felt pretty good going into Saturday.

The New Turf!

The weather yesterday (Saturday), was intermittently sunny and the temperature reached 48 degrees! So, in that regard, it was a great day for lacrosse. As the Lady Lions took the field, I was nervous, but also excited.

Ready to go!

We began very nicely, winning the first couple of draws and working the ball well on offense, on the way to scoring the first two goals! The Wildcats, much improved since last season, surged back and scored the next five goals, and fourteen of the next fifteen! Molloy did not score its fourth goal until 2:19 was left in the third quarter! The Wildcats were pretty dominant on their way to a 15 – 6 victory.

Statistically, the game appeared closer than it actually was. Despite being soundly beaten, there were a fair number of positives, for us to take from this game. At times, we showed flashes of the talent and potential, our team has. We will need to play more consistently in all phases of the game, if we are to become the kind of team, we think we can be. It was disappointing, to be sure, but will hopefully, serve as a “wake up” call for this young Lions Team. We will get back to work – though probably not until we dig out from another snow storm! We are supposed to play highly ranked Pace, at home this Wednesday, but the impending “blizzard”, makes it questionable.

Now, The Good News!

“Good News” is a big understatement! About one month ago, Karl and Elise informed us that they are expecting a baby! Then, a few days ago, they revealed that a Baby Boy is due to arrive in early September! I have been walking around on Cloud Nine, since we found out. I feel like my whole life is different, somehow now! I am beyond excited.
