First Win of 2026!

The relentlessly cold and snowy winter of 2026, rambled on with a vengeance, this past week. It began snowing Sunday afternoon and did not stop until nearly two feet of snow had accumulated, by Monday afternoon, and most of Long Island was shut down through Tuesday! Our game against Pace, scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed, though we were able to return to practice Wednesday (indoors), but were greeted with another two or three inches of snow that morning! Thankfully, temperatures rose over the next few days and we were able to be back outside for practice, on Friday!

I was uncomfortable with the disjointed week of preparation, even though I thought that the team was able to focus and make the most of our film sessions and practices. Going into Saturday’s (yesterday) home game against the American International Yellow Jackets, I was not sure what to expect.

Gameday is always exciting, and yesterday’s beautiful warm, sunny weather, seemed to add to the excitement!

The Lady Lions wasted little time, as they jumped all over the Visitors, who only have twelve players. The undermanned Yellow Jackets gave up the first seven goals, before getting their first tally, late in the first quarter. By halftime, Molloy led 13 – 1! The Lions dominated every facet of the game, and cruised to a 19 – 4 victory. Eight different players scored goals and every player got playing time.

It was great to get our first win of the season, but beating an overmatched opponent, does not mean all that much. In games like that, it can be difficult to stay disciplined, and focused on executing the game plan. I thought we did a pretty good job of that yesterday. All in all, I did feel like we improved as a team.

Lions Nation happily soaked in the spring-like weather, at the (as always) Great, post game Tailgate Party. In fact, when I got home, Debi and I decided to extend the party, in the backyard, for as long as the sun was still shining on us!

Beach Chairs in the Backyard!

It turns out, yesterday’s weather was a tease! Today, we are back to the reality, that is this Endless Winter! In fact, it was just snowing, lightly! We have two games scheduled for this week. Wednesday, at home against Georgian Court, and Saturday at Southern New Hampshire. We lost to both of those teams last year (each by one goal!), and we should expect very tough games from them again. It will be nice to have a week, where nothing gets postponed or cancelled. Hopefully, we will get into our normal practice and preparation routine, and go into these games feeling completely ready.

Go Lions!
