A Lot Going On!

It has been nearly three months, since I last posted! No, I have not been chillin’ out poolside or at the beach. In fact, I no longer have a pool, to hang out by! Before I get to that, I will recap recent events.

Just prior to the end of our Lacrosse season, at Molloy, Debi and I made an offer on a two bedroom condominium in the Village of Babylon. When our offer was accepted, we had to put our house (our home of 31 years!) up for sale. This stark reality, did not sink in right away, though. We had other things to focus on.

First, we travelled to Rochester, to celebrate our future Son in Law’s Graduation from SUNY Brockport. On the way up, we stopped in Corning, NY, and toured the Corning Museum of Glass (something we had talked about doing many times, but had not done… until this time). It is a really cool place, I highly recommend it.

But the trip was really about the Graduation. We are so proud of Jon, and were thrilled to be able be there for the occasion. We even got to play a round of golf (I was about as bad as I expected to be).

A few weeks after, the graduation, Jon and Diana were on Long Island, for our Daughter in Law, Elise’s Baby Shower! The men were mostly segregated from this event (boo hoo!), but we hung out at Karl’s best friend Vinnie’s Pizzeria – Enzo’s of Williston Park. Great food and a Great Time!

Great Food at Enzo’s

After the excitement of the Shower, I was forced to begin preparing to move! We would only have about a month to pare down three decades of accumulation, to an amount we could fit in a two bedroom unit. We realized right away, this may not be possible, and rented a 10′ x 10′ storage unit.

The Move, had now become, pretty much, my sole mission. Working Out, went by the wayside. Golf would take too much time. So, it was basically, ten days of overloading our Sanitation Crew, making runs to the Storage Unit, and of course, boxing things up! During this time, I began to realize how monumental this “Move” really was. While you are deciding what comes with you and what gets discarded, you are confronted with the memories associated with all of that “stuff”. As I labored at all of this, on some of the hottest days in memory, I questioned the wisdom of this “Move”. Why would we sell our house, our home base, especially, now that the backyard looked like a resort! The American Dream is to own a house, Not A Condominium!

Why are we leaving this?

Before the two Closings, and the “Move”, itself, we had one last trip to make. For the fourth consecutive year, Debi and I have been happy to be part of the staff for the Nazareth Golden Flyer Youth Lacrosse Camp. It is a great camp and we love being able to help Diana, out. I had been so busy and focused on moving, that I had not thought about Lacrosse at all. The trip to Rochester, our visit with Jon and Diana and of course, The Camp (despite record breaking heat!), all were a great distraction from what awaited us, when we returned home.

Upon, returning home, it was all business. It seemed there was not a moment to waste. In retrospect, I am disappointed, I allowed myself to become so worried about it all. In the end we got it all done, and I should have had more faith in myself. Despite being pretty exhausted every night, I slept poorly, unable to turn off my brain.

We moved out of the house five days before closing on it. That period of time allowed me time to reflect on the great life we got to have at 49 Flagstone Lane. Of course there will be things we all miss. I am grateful for all of it, but it was time for us to move on, and for another young family to make it their own.

When we were first married, we lived walking distance to the village of Bayside, in Queens. We were not there long, but we always talked about how nice it had been to live in a Village. Well, now we are in the village of Babylon and looking forward to making it our home and creating memories here. I plan on continuing to post here, on this new chapter of life. I hope you will stay tuned!
