Getting Better

So, it has been just past three months, since we moved from our house in Westbury, to our two bedroom condo, in the Village of Babylon. Shortly after our move, I injured my back pretty seriously and have been working on recovering, ever since. I began going for Physical Therapy, close enough to home, that eventually (not in the beginning!) I was able to walk there. I received great care there, and made very good progress. About a month and a half ago, I decided I no longer needed the PT, as most of the exercises could be performed at home and/or the Gym.

Inspiring words at the PT facility.

I have returned to the Gym, which is also within walking distance, and have been diligently doing everything I can, to continue on the road to recovery. I have been feeling better and better, though the progress has been mostly, very slow. I have been feeling well enough, to be available at least a couple of days a week, to help Karl and Elise, with Teddy. Getting my “Teddy Time”, has been a great joy, for me.

A couple of weekends ago, Debi and I hit the road early Saturday morning for our first long car trip, since I hurt my back. We were heading to Great Barrington, MA, for the Baby Shower for my cousin Tim and his better half, Camille. While I was very much looking forward to this event, I was worried about how my back would tolerate being in the car for several hours. It went better than I could have hoped for, as I was pretty much free of any discomfort, during the ride. On top of that, we were rewarded with a stunningly beautiful Autumn Day and the amazing Fall Foliage, along the way!

Once in Great Barrington we had a fine lunch at The Barrington Brewery and then still had time for a couple of short hikes, close to town. Both turned out to be beautiful. First we explored the Housatonic Flats Trail, which runs alongside the Housatonic River. Then we went back into town and checked out the Housatonic River Walk and Great Barrington Riverfront Trail, which follows the river through the town.

The Baby Shower was held at Camille’s Mom, Jennie’s beautiful home just outside of the town of Great Barrington. It was a wonderful party with great food, great views and best of all great company! It was so nice to see all of my Massachusetts and Maine Relatives, as well as my sister Christine and her boyfriend Brian. I felt bad that we could not stay longer, but we were getting back in the car to drive up to the Condo at Gore Mountain (just over two more hours). It was a great party, and I hope we get to see them all again, soon.

The photo does not quite do the view justice.
This might be better!

The second leg of the journey, went smoothly and we arrived with temperatures dropping drastically, but were happy to find our place in good shape. We hadn’t been there since May, and there had been two sets of renters in there, around the 4th of July, so we did not know what to expect.

The following day was cloudy and cold, but it was still great to be back in the Mountains. As luck would have it, Gore was hosting a Harvest Festival at the base of the Mountain with lots of vendors and lots of cool stuff (we purchased a beautiful wooden cutting board). We took a Gondola Ride to the top of the Mountain. Despite the cloud cover, the Foliage was pretty amazing!

We hit the Road early enough on Monday (Columbus Day – can I still call it that?), to avoid any real traffic on our trip home. We spent much of the ride, recapping our wonderful weekend and feeling very grateful about it!

Just to bring you up to date, last Friday, I went to the Driving Range to hit some golf balls for the first time since June! Once again, I was a bit concerned, and did not know quite what to expect. Thankfully, I had no discomfort and hope to return play, maybe even this week!

It was only a small bucket, but it felt good!

So far, we are loving living in Babylon. It is very beautiful, extremely walkable, and has an abundance of great places to eat. They have a had a number of Street Fairs, and a great Farmers Market every Sunday from May through October. Looking forward to more good times here!
