A Good Start!

The Molloy Lady Lions opened the 2024 campaign by hosting the Ravens of Franklin Pierce, last Wednesday. The Ravens tallied the first goal but the Lions scored the next six, and led by a score of 7 – 2 at halftime. Franklin Pierce narrowed the lead to three goals, with the score at 7-4, before the Lions scored the final five goals of the game, for a 12 – 7 victory! While, it was good to open the season with a win, it was less than fully satisfying because we played very sloppy lacrosse, and allowed an inferior team, to hang around.

It wasn’t pretty, but we will take it.

The Post Game Tailgate Party, was great, as always. I felt that the mood was a bit subdued, considering we just won. I think everyone knew that we would need to improve our play, and do so quickly, because our next game would be against a tougher opponent in Southern Connecticut State on Saturday.

Another great Spread!

We had two very good days of Practice, Thursday and Friday, and though we did not have any current film on SCSU (their first game had been postponed), I felt pretty good about our level of preparation.

Wrapping up Friday’s Practice, we were treated to this Beautiful Sunset!

There was a different feel to our pre-game warm up, yesterday. The team was business like and focused. Everyone remembered our Overtime loss to SCSU in the snow, last year, and you could sense that the Lions were viewing this one, as “unfinished business”.

A Great Day to settle a score!

The Lady Lions started the game brilliantly! We were firing on all cylinders – Offense, Defense, Draw Controls, Groundballs, you name it, we were doing it and doing it well. We raced out to a 6 – 0 lead and were ahead 9 – 2, with five and a half minutes left in the first half. It seemed like we might be able to run away with the game. But, we began to be plagued with some of the same kinds of mistakes we had made in our first game and to their credit, the Owls began to claw their way back into the game. With almost eleven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, our lead was down to one, at 13 – 12!

This was “gut check” time, and boy, did the Lady Lions respond! Just as it began to seem possible that we may blow the game, our team regained their footing and finished off the game with the final three goals, to come away with a very satisfying 16 – 12 triumph!

Victory Lap!

I lingered at the Tailgate Party (another incredible assortment of great food! Thank You to the Parents!) soaking up the good mood, and reflecting on the game. While we had left the door open and allowed them back into the game, in the end we answered the bell! I am proud of them.

As we look forward now (Gannon University at home, this Wednesday), we know that we are capable of playing really well. We need to keep improving and eliminate some of our mistakes. This team is showing some real potential. I am excited to continue the journey.

GO LIONS!

  1. Congratulations coach! It is important to enjoy the victories despite not being “all you can be”; continued improvement mentally, physically, and emotionally is what makes the journey challenging and “in the end” rewarding for players and coaches alike!!!!🥍😊👍
